Method

  1. 1

Preheat to 200°C, or 180°C fan forced, and line a baking tray. Slice the top from the cob loaf and scoop out the middle, keeping a roughly 1.5 cm shell. Tear the removed bread and lid into pieces.

  2. 2

Combine the melted 60 g butter spread, three garlic cloves and 2 teaspoons parsley. Coat the bread pieces and brush the remaining mixture inside the cob. Bake the pieces for 20 minutes, adding the hollow loaf for the final 10 minutes.

  3. 3

Meanwhile, heat half the remaining 40 g butter spread in a frying pan. Brown the beef in two batches for 2–3 minutes and transfer to a plate. Soften onion, mushrooms and remaining garlic in the rest of the spread for 4–5 minutes.

  4. 4

Add paprika, cream, 165 ml stock, tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce; return the beef. Mix cornflour with the extra tablespoon of stock, stir in and simmer for 6–8 minutes until creamy. Season and add the remaining parsley. Fill the warm cob and serve with the garlic bread pieces.
